Bird Watching by Boat
The Pelican Island Wildlife Festival includes boat tours
through the Indian River Lagoon to Pelican Island. Wintering
birds seen on the island may include White Pelicans, Brown
Pelicans, Roseate Spoonbills and Forster's tern. Check out our
new shorebird visitors to the islands oyster shell reef
created from last years shoreline restoration project.

Live Wildlife Presentations by Jack Hannah and Jim Fowler
Live Wildlife ExhibitsActivities at Riverview Park will
include a one-hour, educational wildlife presentation with live
native wildlife. Stroll through a variety of educational wildlife
exhibits throughout the day, including birds of prey, native snakes,
tortoises and alligators from rehabilitation centers and educational
institutions. In addition, several wildlife and nature seminars will
be offered throughout the day.
Focusing on Your KidsA variety of kid's activities will be
available throughout the day at Riverview Park including games,
educational activities, puppet shows, music, plays, face painting
and more.
Kayak/Canoeing in the Indian River Lagoon Kayaking and canoeing in the Indian River Lagoon
will be offered across the street from Riverview Park . Take a
paddle through North America's most diverse estuary.
Environmental EducationExhibitors at Riverview Park will
include a variety of federal, state, county and nonprofit
environmental organizations. Learn about the environmental
treasure's of Indian River County, how you can experience them, what
services are available to you and how you can help native wildlife
and habitat in Florida.
Working with the SchoolsA poster and poem contest
coordinated through the Indian River County school system produces
creative work about the Indian River Lagoon, endangered species,
Pelican Island, recycling and trees. Awards will be presented for
the winning entries during the Festival.
Arts & Crafts Exhibitors Professional artists will have
their works for sale throughout the day at Riverview Park. Items
include nature photography, paintings and watercolors, etched glass,
wind chimes, woodcarvings, animal puzzles and much more.

The Birds of Pelican Island
Over 30 species of birds use Pelican Island as a
rookery, roost, feeding ground, or loafing area. 16 different
species of birds nest on Pelican Island, including the Brown
Pelican, Wood Stork, Great Egret, Snowy Egret, Reddish Egret, Cattle
Egret, Great Blue Heron, Little Blue Heron, Tricolored Heron,
Green-backed Heron, Black-crowned Night Heron, Double-crested
cormorant, Anhinga, White Ibis, American oystercatcher, Common
moorhen.
Wintering birds include the White pelican, double-crested
cormorant, Roseate Spoonbill, Blue-wing teal, Lesser scaup,
Red-breasted merganser, Ring-billed gull, Forster's tern, and Common
Loon.

What Does the Event Cost?All the event activities at
Riverview Park are free.
Where is the Festival Held?The festival is held at
Riverview Park in Sebastian, Florida. Riverview Park is located at
the intersection of SR 512 and US 1 along the western edge of the
Indian River Lagoon. From I-95, take exit 69 and go east on SR 512.
SR 512 ends at Riverview Park on US 1.
